There will be a 2.3-mile Recreational Race at 11 am. At 12 pm, the 4.7-mile canoe/kayak/SUP race will crown the 2018 Massachusetts Pursuit Champion. The spectators lounging on the beach will be able to watch 90% of the race on the 1.2 mile, 4 buoy turn course that is A-okay for an under-stern rudder.
Registration is $20, and at least half of that will be returned to the racers in the way of cash prizes (and raffle prizes for rec racers).
Another new component to this day is what we're calling "Paddle with a Pro". Interested folks will sign up to have a complimentary dry-land or on-water questions/pointers session (15 minutes) with a "pro" canoeist, kayaker, or SUPer after the race.

The Essex River Race is a 5.5+ mile open water event from the Essex River at Route 133 in Essex, out behind the barrier beaches of Ipswich and back. Participants row or paddle small boats through one of the most scenic tidal areas in New England. Occasionally the water can be very rough, with strong winds and currents. As with all on-water activities in such conditions, safety should be the first concern of all participants and organizers. The orderly, safe and sportsmanlike conduct of this event is your personal responsibility, and is essential to guaranteeing the future of the Essex River Race.

The Essex River Race is open to all seaworthy human-powered rowing and paddle boats. Participants' crafts usually include Banks dories, fixed seat singles, doubles, multi-oars with cox, multi-oars without cox, sliding seat singles & doubles, single & double touring kayaks, surfskis.

This three-day, 90-mile flat water race follows the original highways of the Adirondacks from Old Forge to Saranac Lake. The course offers a mix of lake and river flat water paddling with several carries. Participants receive a T-shirt, mileage pins, awards, camping, snacks, boat shuttles and a post race meal. Entry forms for this race go out via U.S. Mail in June. The 90 - Miler is limited to 275 boats. Entry deadline is July 20.

  • The 5-mile paddle starts from Tully Lake Campground, proceeds up the Tully River (flat water) to the north end of Long Pond, and returns to the starting point for the transition to the run.
  • The 4.5-mile run follows a dirt trail around Tully Lake. Its course is moderate except for one short steep hill on Doane Hill Road.
  • The 7.5-mile bike leg will loop the Tully Lake Mountain Bike Trail, a moderately difficult mix of fire roads and single track.
