4th of July Contoocook River Race

Sunshine, mild breezes, and temperatures in the high 70's graced the 34th running of the 4th of July canoe and kayak race in Contoocook, NH. High gas prices and cold rain threatened many, but the day was fair and the price of gas was temporarily forgotten. 69 paddlers in 43 boats hutted their stuff for racing fun, goat's milk soap and lip balm and a turkey roast picnic. It was a very good day, and the record of the racers' successes follows:
